Nearly 1700 DWI Arrests in Texas in Just 18 Days! – Article 647
Posted in Gadolinium (MRI Injection) on October 17, 2013
Do not get behind the wheel of an automobile after a night of drinking. This is advice is commonly accepted as being wise, right? You become a danger to yourself and every other person on the road when you decide to operate a car with slowed response time, vision problems and general mental impairment that comes from consuming too much alcohol. But still, despite warnings being issued from high school classroom, television PSAs and highway billboards, we still see men and women driving when they have no business doing so.
The Texas Department of Public Safety demonstrated what a serious problem drinking and drinking is in our state over an intense 18-day enforcement period that included the Labor Day weekend. With the help of additional patrol hours, troopers made 1,682 DWI arrests during this time. That means nearly 100 people every day were caught driving while under the influence of alcohol, while certainly many others traveled our extensive state roads in this dangerous condition without apprehension.
Hopefully the arrests will serve as a wake-up call for these men and women and they will be sure to find a designated driver next time instead of facing a consequence much worse than an arrest.

Texas Law Challenges “bad” Car Insurance Policies
Posted in Zicam on October 14, 2013
Our law firm know that it is essential for every driver to have auto insurance. If a driver is involved in a car accident and he or she was responsible for causing that crash, the driver can be sued by those who were hurt or by loved ones who were killed in the accident. Most people don’t have enough personal money or assets to cover the costs of injuries or wrongful death lawsuits and car insurance policies make sure that innocent victims are paid and that those who cause wrecks don’t face financial devastation.
Unfortunately, there has been an increase in car insurance policies in Texas that fall far short of providing full coverage. Dubbed “junk” auto insurance policies according to the Dallas News, the official name of these policies is “named driver” auto policies. While cheaper, the “named driver” policies have restrictions on coverage that many people aren’t aware of and that leave drivers vulnerable.
Named Auto Insurance Policies Provide Limited Protection
Named auto insurance policies provide coverage not to a vehicle, as most insurance policies do, but instead to one particular driver who is named on the policy. In other words, unlike when you buy a traditional insurance policy, if you let someone drive your car and you have a named auto insurance policy, the person who drives your car is not covered. This is true not just if you lend the car to a friend or to an acquaintance but also if someone in your family who is not the named driver uses a car.

Construction Worker Deaths Went Up by 5 Percent in 2012
Posted in ATV Accidents on October 11, 2013
According to a new report released by the United States Department of Labor, the number of construction workers killed on construction sites rose 5 percent in 2012, from 738 to 775. The Department of Labor has deemed the construction industry the “deadliest industry in the United States.” Falls, slips, and trips remain a construction worker’s worst enemy: in 2012, 280 construction workers died from a workplace fall, slip, or trip, which represented over a third of all construction related deaths. The remaining categories of construction deaths are transportation incidents (216), traumatic contact with on-site objects or equipment (135), and exposure to harmful substances or environments (102). Looking for a workers compensation lawyer?
From our vast experience in construction cases, we know employees in the construction industry work from great heights every day, and falls are very common. Therefore, it is critical to make sure your employer provides the safety equipment you need to protect yourself from falls, by tying-off or using a horizontal lifeline, if working from heights greater than seven feet. In addition, you must always report an unsafe work environment if your employer does not provide you with a safe environment to work from heights.

Louisiana Premises Liability – Crane Accident at Recycler Blamed for Injury
According to the Louisiana Record, a recycling company is being sued by two Louisiana men who were injured on its premises. The men were harmed by a crane that was being used to try to remove scrap metal from a trailer. Lawyers in Louisiana know that when a company provides a service to the public and opens its doors to do business, the company has an obligation to ensure the safety of patrons. In this case, it will be important to determine if the company fell short in its obligation in a way that led to the crane accident and resulting injuries.
What is the Recycling Company’s Responsibility?
The Louisiana Record reports that the two men injured at the recycling company were hurt as a result of a crane attached to a trailer belonging to one of the men. The crane was attached to help remove scrap metal when it got stuck and allegedly lifted. The trailer was shaken by the crane and hit the rear of one of the men’s trucks. Both of the men were reportedly injured as a result of the impact.
The two men filed a lawsuit in the Central District Court and the defendant recycling company has been accused of failing to properly train its employs, improperly entrusting a crane to its employees, and operating a business with unsafe practices and unsafe operations.
