Injury Reported: 2 New York tour bus accidents result in three fatalities, dozens of injuries July 23

A fiery bus accident involving a tractor trailer on July 22 on the New York State Thruway near Waterloo, N.Y., resulted in burn injuries and the death of the truck driver.

The tour bus crash occurred on Interstate 90 in Junius, Seneca County, along the northern edge of the Finger Lakes region around 1:30 a.m., according to news reports. Injury victims were transported to Rochester area hospitals.

Earlier in the week, on July 17, two people were killed and 35 were injured in a separate tour bus crash involving a tire blowout in Avoca, N.Y.

These bus accidents, along with other tour bus crashes that have occurred throughout the United States, have prompted an effort by legislators for stronger bus regulations. Buffalo NY bus accident lawyers also have begun representing people injured in bus crashes.

In the bus accident in Waterloo, a tour bus from the Canadian province of Ontario with 52 people aboard was bound for New York City when the accident happened. The bus driver pulled to the side of the road because an emissions warning light had come on, and then was struck from behind by a tractor trailer as the bus was getting back onto the highway.

Both the bus and the semi truck burst into flames. Killed in the accident was truck driver Timothy Hume, 59, of Dreyden, Mich. At least 30 people were injured in the bus accident and transported to area hospitals. James Morris is a Bufflao personal injury lawyer

The tour bus accident is under investigation. The bus driver, Rene Bisson, of Ontario, was ticketed because his license was suspended in New York State, according to police. The license was suspended in New York over two speeding tickets, according to news reports.
