Nearly 1700 DWI Arrests in Texas in Just 18 Days! – Article 647

Do not get behind the wheel of an automobile after a night of drinking. This is advice is commonly accepted as being wise, right? You become a danger to yourself and every other person on the road when you decide to operate a car with slowed response time, vision problems and general mental impairment that comes from consuming too much alcohol. But still, despite warnings being issued from high school classroom, television PSAs and highway billboards, we still see men and women driving when they have no business doing so.
The Texas Department of Public Safety demonstrated what a serious problem drinking and drinking is in our state over an intense 18-day enforcement period that included the Labor Day weekend. With the help of additional patrol hours, troopers made 1,682 DWI arrests during this time. That means nearly 100 people every day were caught driving while under the influence of alcohol, while certainly many others traveled our extensive state roads in this dangerous condition without apprehension.
Hopefully the arrests will serve as a wake-up call for these men and women and they will be sure to find a designated driver next time instead of facing a consequence much worse than an arrest.

According to the Louisiana Record, a recycling company is being sued by two Louisiana men who were injured on its premises. The men were harmed by a crane that was being used to try to remove scrap metal from a trailer. The Louisiana Record reports that the two men injured at the recycling company were hurt as a result of a crane attached to a trailer belonging to one of the men. The crane was attached to help remove scrap metal when it got stuck and allegedly lifted. The trailer was shaken by the crane and hit the rear of one of the men’s trucks. Both of the men were reportedly injured as a result of the impact.
The two men filed a lawsuit in the Central District Court and the defendant recycling company has been accused of failing to properly train its employs, improperly entrusting a crane to its employees, and operating a business with unsafe practices and unsafe operations.
